Welcome to the official site of the BBSzilla project. BBSzilla will be an add-on for Mozilla based browsers that will enable the browser to utilize popular TCP-based BBS protocols. To do this, BBSzilla presents a framework with components that are common to most BBS protocols like a user list and chat rooms. To connect to bulletin board systems, the framework will use independantly developed modules that are built to support a specific BBS protocol. We want to make it easy for anyone to develop a protocol module without having to know how the internals of BBSzilla work and we will publish the BBSzilla Framework API for potential module developers to reference.
One of the most popular of the BBS/TCP protocols is the Hotline protocol. After finishing the BBSzilla framework, we will focus on creating a module for the Hotline protocol. The Hotline protocol sports many nifty features, including file transfer, public and private chatting, user icons, threaded news system, single-thread public bulletin, account-based authentication, and more. We will be working with other project teams to further develop the Hotline protocol and we will try to develop support for protocol enhancements that have already been presented in independent projects such as CAPS, GtkHX and [m|s]hxd.
